At your first consultation Laura will take a detailed medical history, including information about your lifestyle such as your level of physical activity and your work, together with any relevant past medical history.

Once your history has been taken Laura will examine how you move. You may be asked to remove some of your clothing (it is helpful if you are able to attend the visit in gym clothes or underwear you are happy to be seen in) and perform a series of simple movements. Your mobility will be assessed by observing your range of movement and by gently feeling your joints and muscles.

The initial assessment will last up to one hour and subsequent treatment sessions will typically last between thirty and forty-five minutes.
It should be noted that Physiotherapists are trained to recognise when physiotherapy won't help and when to refer a patient to a doctor.

After diagnosing the cause of your condition Laura will propose a treatment program which may consist of one or more of the following techniques:
-Massage
-Joint mobilisation and manipulation
-Acupuncture
-Soft tissue techniques including: massage, trigger point release and stretching
-Postural and movement re-education
-Ergonomic advice
-Pilates and core stability training
-Traditional and Kinesio Taping
-Pelvic floor assessment and treatment
-Exercise Prescription

You will also be given exercises to do at home and, in some cases, advice as to how to minimise any negative impact of your lifestyle on your condition. This 'homework' is a crucial part of your treatment and should not be ignored.
