Hi, I’m Lizzie, I’m a midwife and I live in the St Austell area with my husband and our little cat, Oscar.
I have been a midwife for almost 5 years and during that time have worked in all areas of maternity within Treliske, I have also been a research midwife, involved with new and innovative research studies looking at the best standards of maternity care.
I have always believed in the importance of the environment a woman gives birth in and, after seeing the beautiful birthing suites in other hospitals around the country, I decided to do something to improve the environment at Treliske. I started a project called The Happy Birth Project and, along with a small group of midwives, we fundraised and worked to provide new artwork, active birth aids, mood lighting, blinds on the Delivery Suite and a refurbishment of the day room on the antenatal ward. When the opportunity came up to be involved with the design of the new birth centre I leapt at the chance and spent a great deal of time and effort on the project to get to the end result you see today.
In May 2017, whilst I was involved with the development of the new birth centre in Truro I moved out to Penrice Birth Centre in St Austell as a Community Midwife to get some experience with water births and I have been here ever since! I love being a community midwife because of the continuity you can have with a pregnant woman and the opportunity to build a relationship. I am also extremely passionate about supporting normal birth and run workshops helping women to choose where to have their baby along with fundraisers and open days.
I believe every woman can have a positive birth experience if they are listened to and respected, no matter how their baby is born and I love helping women to achieve that.
Myself and Alli will be taking you, step by step, through what to expect during late pregnancy, labour and in the hours and days afterwards, helping you to make decisions about where to have your baby and your care. We will also cover packing a bag, facilities in each birth centre/hospital and when things don’t go to plan.
I looking forward to meeting you, you can book now here.
